For individuals
We absolutely believe that a person has a right to work, and we understand that returning to work as soon as possible after an injury greatly improves the chances of a full recovery.
Statistics show that the longer someone is absent from work, the less likely they will return.

Return to work programs
Stepping Ahead assists throughout the entire return to work process with a tailored program. We will:
1. Meet with you to understand your situation 2. Meet with you and your treating doctor 3. Meet with you and your current or possible new employer, and assess your workplace and future options4. Use our expertise to determine what is required for you to return to work - in the same or different capacity as before your injury 5. Work with you to reach all the milestones required before and after returning.
Some of the trickier parts of the process we assist with include negotiating with your employer on your behalf, interpreting medical and legal reports and documents, and ensuring you have support if any questions or issues arise throughout the process.

What we offer
Worksite evaluations
- Essential to the return to work process, a worksite evaluation provides a clear snapshot of work demands, workplace culture and the pathway to return to work for injured workers.
- Stepping Ahead ensures:
- All stakeholders are heard and acknowledged
- Common ground is found
- A clear pathway is developed and understood.
- We are able to provide assessment and recommendations for both physical and psychological conditions.
Vocational assessments
A vocational assessment is an important tool to help understand appropriate pathways for an injured worker. This assessment will be provided as an easy-to-interpret report analysing options like rehabilitation and returning to the person’s current role, or redeployment to a new business or role.
Career counselling
- Sometimes employers are unable to accommodate a worker with an injury or illness, but wish to assist that worker to find safe and durable alternative employment. In this case, Stepping Ahead offers Career Counselling, which helps workers:
- Understand their values relating to work
- Identify their work interests
- Accept the need for or desire to change from their current circumstances
- Set and focus on career goals.
Job preparation services
- If you are no longer able to do the same work after your injury or do not have a job to return to, we provide job preparations services to take you through anything you might need to transition back into the workforce.
- These are tailored to your needs and include:
- Graduated return to work program with a host employer while still receiving WC payments
- Development of resumes and cover letters
- Interview skills training
- Computer training
- Help identifying suitable roles for your ability
- Job seeking with you or on your behalf.
